About the Show
Hosted by local DJ El Comandante, the show’s title comes from the name of the iconic song, Staples Singers’ “I’ll Take You There,” and features music from places in the country and the world. SPECIAL NOTE:
“After our station ID, you’ll hear an iconic Stevie Wonder song–Living for the City. El Comandante will warn you that you will hear the N-word about 5:10 minutes into the song. It is not a word we have ever heard anyone affiliated with KCBP or the Peace/Life Center use. It is used by a jailer when a young Black man is being shoved into a jail cell. After much discussion, we decided not to bleep it out. Bleeping it out would have changed the message Stevie Wonder wanted to convey. Our apologies if this offends anyone.
Stevie Wonder described the song as the one song that best showed how he felt. He was able to show the hurt and the anger.
What is described in the song still happens today.”
